Apple Music has released the official trailer for Horses: Patti Smith and Her Band ahead of the documentary’s May 22 release. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival April 23, before streaming on Apple Music starting on Tuesday, May 22.
The rock doc recounts one of the last shows celebrating the 40th anniversary of Smith’s seminal album Horses, a performance at the Wiltern Theater in L.A. Smith and her band prepare for the show with special guest guitarist Jackson Smith and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea. The documentary manages to mix intimate backstage moments with concert footage of Smith performing her album in its entirety.
Horses: Patti Smith and Her Band was directed by Steve Sebring and executive produced by Jimmy Iovine, who acquired it for Apple Music earlier this year.
Horses is sure to be a treat as a chance for Smith’s fans to see footage of her performing her landmark album in its entirety. See the trailer and a 1979 performance by Smith and Her Band below, along with a peek at the film’s official poster.
